Who Knew?

Who knew there were so many varieties of extra virgin olive oil?  I didn’t and neither did some of my best girlfriends.  We decided to learn more; so off we went to an olive oil tasting at The Virgin Olive Oiler here in Ft.Worth.

It was an amazing, entertaining and informative event.  Just the store itself captured our curiosity.  Everywhere we turned there were shiny barrel like containers filled with many varieties of extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

We were given a really interesting talk on the ins and outs of extra virgin olive oil. We asked so many questions, but Charles the owner seemed eager for even more questions. From information about the health benefits of extra virgin olive oil to the tasting of the varieties–everything was explained.

Charles instructed us on the correct way to taste, and then we started tasting. We tasted from light to bold varieties. We mixed varieties of balsamic vinegar to varieties of extra virgin olive oil–comparing each one.  We were also served horderves with of course some type of extra virgin olive and balsamic vinegar complimenting each dish.

Each one of us left with a purchase and vowed to be back.

Today we had good food and wine with good friends, and we all learned something.  Remember “thisisyourbestyear”.

This is my best year ever, and it can be yours too. When I turned 40, I thought it was the end of life as I knew it. When I turned 50, I knew it was the end. It was the end, the end of that year--nothing more and nothing less. I've retired, gone to another career, started a business, and have kept writing. I've taken classes including glass blowing, swing dancing and so much more. I'm making each year, my best year.

  1. Learned about varieties of EV Olive Oil two years ago when I had my birthday party 2011_”Under The Tuscan Sun”.We had an Olive oil tasting ,Balsamic Vinegar tasting & Saba tasting (Saba produced from the same grape “must” for balsamic vinegar, cooked down even further to a thick, savory, condiment used on meats, cheeses, and desserts)_and the Regional Mgr.for Candoni Wines came to my home for a Wine Tasting….aahhh,NOW_that was a memorable party,Indeed! Glad ,you & your girls(BFF’s) had a good time!

  2. I remember the blog. I told them at the event that my firend (you) had a tasting. You know I just watched Under the Tuscan Sun again. We have to do something this summer. I have about 4 more weeks until vacation.
