Going It Alone

Sometimes you have to go it alone. You have to entertain yourself. While visiting Oklahoma City I found myself in that situation. I am sure that I could have found wonderful ladies whose husband’s were also.attending the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity meeting to go with me, but I was the walking wounded because of my fall a couple of nights before and walking a tad bit slow.

After resting my foot for a day and having only one full day left I was off to see “something”. I had visited the Riverwalk and  the beautiful and powerful National Museum before. While enjoying breakfast I talked with a local *artist (waiter) about the artsy side of town–Paseo. The bellman hailed a cab for me and off I went. As luck would have it my cab driver was the local history expert, and my cab ride was.a wonderful history lesson. As soon as he turned the corner I knew that I would have an enjoyable afternoon.

Below are some of the beautiful sites of The Paseo Arts District. The artwork is beautiful and interesting, but more important, the gallery owners were so nice. They were eager to give you the history of the art and artist.  One of my favorite places was the Jann Jeffrey Gallery–we had a lot in common.  We both had lived in East Texas so we had a lot to talk about.

Sometimes you have to go it alone, and enjoy “your” company.  Remember “thisisyourbestyear”.

Some of the places that I visited were:

I visited so many others, and you can read and see more about the Paseo Arts District @ http://www.thepaseo.com/

Girls Night Out–You Need One Sometimes

Sometimes you just want to have a girlfriends date. You want to talk about whatever and just have a good time. We started our night out at the Fort Worth City Club with a wine tasting on the terrace while looking at the skyline of Fort Worth. Our night continued at a wonderful restaurant in the 7th Street area–AF+B. The entire meal was fantastic.

Good friends, good wine, good food and good conversation–you just need it sometimes.

Cocktail For Your Face

As you know it takes me a while to tell you about a product.  As  women of a certain age advertisers are always trying to sell us that next best thing.  You know that one thing that reduces, or puffs, or diminishes, hydrates and on and on.  I have found some things that work for me.

My latest finds were at CVS Pharmacy, yes they were at the drugstore.  Here they are:

LumeneBoth products are by Lumene and are relatively inexpensive.  We all know that one day we woke up and wondered where the moisture in our face had gone.  The Vitamin C+ Dry Skin Comfort Radiance Cocktail is a product that will give your face a welcome jolt of moisture.  You shake it up and apply it to your face/neck.  It is not a heavy oil.  You can use it in the morning or at bedtime.  Some days I use it as the only moisturizer I need  and others I may add another moisturizer. This product truly does “comfort” the skin.

The night moisturizer Lumene  Vitamin C+ Pure Radiance Night Cream is not oily; it leaves a silky fresh feeling that you can even wear under makeup.  It seems to do be exactly what it claims, it is “rejuvenating”. They do have a daytime moisturizer that I have not tried as of yet.  I think that for the moment the night-time moisturizer will do for both day and night.

Lumene 2As women of a certain age, we know that our skin is constantly changing, and we are always on the lookout for a product that is for the moment.  I honestly recommend these two products if you are suffering from dryness.  They have worked for me, and the price is right.

If for some reason these products don’t meet your needs you can put them on the “B” team.  Put them in your gym bag, pack them in your travel bag.  For the price they can’t be beat.

I’ve Fallen–I Got Up

I've Fallen 1

Remember the commercial we all laughed at when we were younger “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up”?  Well while in Oklahoma City I fell.  I’m not exactly sure how I missed that step, but while leaving the restaurant after dinner–I fell (only had water to drink).  I am here to tell you that I got up!!!

It might seem strange to say that, but that crazy exercise routine of sitting on the floor and getting up paid off.  I was able to walk from Bricktown back to the hotel.  Nothing was broken.  I have a boo boo on my knee and elbow and my foot is swollen, but nothing is broken.

I did go to Immediate Care the next day to have it checked out. So I am icing it and wearing very sensible shoes for a while.

I may never be as fit as I was in my 20’s, but I can fall and get up! I want to thank Marsha and Ed for keeping me in shape (thanks guys). I can still wear a regular necklace–no need for the Life Alert necklace at this time.

If the shoe fits

What is too old?

All Things Considered

My most recent column should be appreciated by all women, young and old, who love shoes.

A short while ago my husband and I were attending a funeral. (Unfortunately we seem to be doing this far too often lately.) As is often the case at funerals, I had an epiphany about the rest of my life and how I wanted to live it. However, this epiphany was not quite what you might expect.

My husband had just pulled up to the curb, put the vehicle into park and shut off the engine. I opened my door preparing to step out when a piercing shriek split the air. “Oh my God! Oh my God!” a woman exclaimed and she seemed to be pointing in my direction.

Startled by her scream I immediately checked my leg to see if I were bleeding, but all seemed fine there. Then I quickly scanned under…

Don’t Miss The Moment

I recently saw Arianna Huffington on several talk shows talking about her book “Thrive” which talks about redefining the meaning of success in all aspects of our lives.  Each time I saw her she always mentioned a quote from her mother which has stuck with me. The quote was “don’t miss the moment”. As women of a certain age, we tend to multitask to the max.  We are always doing something, trying to get to the next level. Our minds are constantly thinking about the next thing.  While we talk to someone, we are texting another, and the cycle goes on and on. We need to stop because we will miss many moments.  I stopped because the moment was “special”.

My youngest invited her sister and nephew over to a giant Easter Egg Hunt that would be held in Dallas. She also invited my sister and I to attend. So in the heat of the day with all the traffic that Dallas has to offer we were off to hunt Easter Eggs. I went to see Honey’s baby having fun because I didn’t want to miss the moment. It was wonderful, and it may never come again.

Another Perspective on Reinventing Your Life–Can’t Hurt

On April 29, Marlo Thomas will host the National Day of Reinvention that will be streamed live.  She will be talking about her new book “It Ain’t Over…” The book is about 60 stories of extraordinary women who have all dared to dream again. Might be fun to tune in.

Remember I read Jane Pauley’s book–“Your Life Calling: Reimagining the Rest of Your Life”. I thought it was a good read. Take a look at the link below to find out more information about Marlo’s book and the time of the live streaming.
