With A Little Help From His Friends President Carter Builds (Some) Houses

It rained and then the sun started to shine as Habitat for Humanity kicked off the 31st Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project in Fort Worth and Dallas. President Carter started the Fort Worth event off with a daily devotion taken from his Sunday School class in Plains, Georgia.

The event was hosted jointly by Trinity Habitat for Humanity and Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity. This is the first time two cities have gone together to host the event.  President and Mrs. Carter joined over 5,000 volunteers to help build or repair more than 100 homes in seven days.  Volunteers came from all walks of life. For some it was their first time and for others it was something they do many times a year. Two regulars Garth Brooks and his wife Trisha Yearwood were making one of their many trips. The Dallas Cowboys came out to serve lunch to the volunteers.  Among the Cowboys was Jason Witten and Brandon Carr.

It was a wonderful, happy occasion. Remember “thisisyourbestyear”.

Home

Being a woman of a certain age I look forward to being at home especially when it is clean.I enjoy my time away, but feel good when I put the key in the lock. As you can see from the picture I am ready. I have my coffee ready, my favorite mug, the newspaper, my well worn bible and my Jimmy Carter daily meditations. All that is left is CBS Sunday Morning and my hubbys face when he comes in from church. I got back too late to attend Carter Metropolitan CME Church this morning, but if the Lord says the same I will be there next Sunday. Remember, “thisisyourbestyear”. Happy to be home.

Getting Ready for the Day

As women we tend to think that we have to be all to everyone.  We sometimes, well most of the time tend to forget that we must take care of ourselves.

It is so important that we start the day in a way that allows us to be at our best.  Let’s talk about routines that keep us in the right frame of mind.

I find that starting the day with prayer is one of the best things that help me.  No matter how little sleep I’ve gotten, I wake up thanking God for the new day.  After doing all the morning things like brushing teeth, washing face and putting on the coffee  (yes, I have to have my coffee), I do a series of stretches to get the body warmed up.

A daily devotional is a must for me.  I’m now reading “Through the Year with Jimmy Carter–366 Daily Meditations from the 39th President”.  I read my devotional with a cup of coffee.  Then I have something for breakfast.

Usually I will watch the local news and weather to start my day.  I only watch about 10 minutes of the morning shows just to see what is going on in the world.  They tend to not be news, but opinions, and there is no need to get upset that early in the morning so why watch.  Don’t start your day with negativity.

I believe that I need to laugh before I leave for work so I turn on something that makes me laugh which is usually a rerun of some sitcom.  After I have laughed, I’m on my way hopefully to a good day.  Start your day with a smile.

How do you start your day?

Remember “Thisisyourbestyear”, and have a good week.
