Dior At The Dallas Museum Of Art

Imagine the most beautiful clothing that you have ever seen and then multiply it by 100. This is what it felt like at the Dallas Museum of Art exhibition of Dior: From Paris to the World. As the song says, “I can only imagine”.

The House of Dior was created by Christian Dior in 1947, and this empire still stands today. Since his death there have been six designers including Yves Saint Laurent, and recently the first female was selected to head the house, Maria Grazia Chiuri. Dior’s legacy continues with his wishes “to make women happier and more beautiful”.

If you get a chance to see this wonderful exhibition I suggest that you attend one of the talks and/or movies that are shown before some of the tours of the exhibition. The talk that I attended was “Dior: From the Inside Out” by Anita Becker. It gave a synopsis of what it takes to create a garment for the House of Dior. If you can’t make any of the talks or movies, there are many on YouTube including the highly acclaimed “Dior and I”.

The beautiful exhibition is divided into sections with the culmination being the breathtaking “From Paris to the World” and “Ladies in Dior” room. It will literally take your breath away. Just a hint–when watching Ladies in Dior” turn around and look up. You will understand when you get there.

All seven who have headed the House of Dior are featured with some of their fashions that show how they steered fashion in their own direction.

Even though some of it looks like the clothing worn to the Met Gala, you see how beautiful it is. It’s kind of like a good mystery movie–you need to go back because you know you missed something. You have until September 1, 2019 to see this glorious exhibition at the Dallas Museum of Art.

I’ve Fallen–I Got Up

I've Fallen 1

Remember the commercial we all laughed at when we were younger “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up”?  Well while in Oklahoma City I fell.  I’m not exactly sure how I missed that step, but while leaving the restaurant after dinner–I fell (only had water to drink).  I am here to tell you that I got up!!!

It might seem strange to say that, but that crazy exercise routine of sitting on the floor and getting up paid off.  I was able to walk from Bricktown back to the hotel.  Nothing was broken.  I have a boo boo on my knee and elbow and my foot is swollen, but nothing is broken.

I did go to Immediate Care the next day to have it checked out. So I am icing it and wearing very sensible shoes for a while.

I may never be as fit as I was in my 20’s, but I can fall and get up! I want to thank Marsha and Ed for keeping me in shape (thanks guys). I can still wear a regular necklace–no need for the Life Alert necklace at this time.

Update–Birkenstocks Repaired

On May 30, 2013, I posted “In With The New Fixing The Old”. It was about repairing my Birkenstock sandals for a fraction of what a new pair would cost. The outcome is below. Take a look.

Before the repair–looking sad.

After repair–looking good.

The cost to repair was $45. They feel really comfortable.  If you have a pair of Birkenstocks that need a little love and care, find an authorized Birkenstock shoe store. They can give you another 5 or 6 years worth of good comfort.

In the Fort Worth, Texas area try Take 5 Birkenstock on Camp Bowie Boulevard.

In With the New and Fixing the Old

Remember last post when I told you I got a new pair of Birkenstock sandals. They are really good walking sandals especially for those of us who do not have perfect feet. Well I was just about to throw the old pair out–they are at least 5 years old–at least. They have seen much better days, in fact they are so worn they make my feet hurt. I was putting them in the box that the new pair came in when I found a little insert and began to read. It said that you should “never” throw out a pair of Birkenstocks; they can almost always be repaired. Well you know that since I am a woman of a certain age, I am very frugal with my money. I went online to see if Fort Worth had an authorized Birkenstock store, and lo and behold there is one on Camp Bowie Boulevard. Since you have to prove things to me, I called to make sure they could repair my sandals, and they said that as long as the leather straps were good they could.

Well here are the way the shoes looked after he had made sure they could be repaired. Kind of sad, don’t you think?

Birkenstock repair 2

He literally took the footbeddding out of the shoe to make sure it could be repaired.  Take a look at what he did.

Birenstock repair

He wanted to make sure that it was not cracked anywhere.  I was informed that he could indeed repair them.  It would take a week to repair and cost about half of what a new pair would cost. I’m thinking to myself that I might should send the new pair back.  Then I thought why not have a spare pair.

On my way out the door I spotted another brand of shoe–Think.  I talked with the sales clerk about them.  He told me that if I liked Birkenstock that I would like Think.  So I tried on a pair.  They are the ones below.

Think Shoes

I must admit, they are really comfortable.  They are on par with Birkenstock and might be a little ahead of them in the comfort range.  I can’t really say for sure since I only had them on for a few minutes.  I will give them credit though, they have a complete line from flats, sandals, booties, pumps and more.  They cost about twice as much as Birkenstocks.  I do not know if they have the same policy on repair.  It seems that their website for the United States is down.  You can buy them at Nordstrom Department Stores also from online stores such as Zappos and others.

My Birkenstocks will be repaired next week, and I will let you know how they look.  If you are in the mood for comfortable shoes and you live in the Fort Worth, Texas area go by Take 5 Birkenstock.  They are located at 6108 Camp Bowie, Blvd., Fort Worth, Texas 76116.  You can also reach them at 817.989.2475.

I don’t know about you, but when my feet hurt, I hurt all over.  Remember “thisisyourbestyear”.

Best Walking Sandals

image

Remember the post on shoes for people with problem feet–bunions? Well, I just got my new Birkenstock sandals. These are the most comfortable walking sandals in the world–seriously. If you want comfort go to their website to see their many styles. There are counterfeit products out there so if you do not see them at a store their website is for you. I got them in less than 3 days and no shipping charge.

These will be packed when I go to Napa along with the heels and athletic footwear.
