Oh Well–Plan B

I got up early, checked off needed items and got dressed. Then I went downstairs to make sure transportation would be coming at about 8 am.  After he located my name I ran to Starbucks to grab a cup of coffee and oatmeal. Then I sat and talked a while with people I had met over the last few days.

As the transportation arrives they called names to get on board– yep you guessed it my name was not on the final list. The guys are running around telling me to wait and wait I did. The bus was full but I could catch the next one.  No thank you I wanted to be on the one where I kind of sorta knew some of the people.

As a woman of a certain age I have learned that if it is not life threatening–let it go. They credited my card and are still apologizing as I am typing this on my Samsung Galaxy Note 2– trying to find something else for me to do. I keep thinking that if I could get a strong cup of coffee I would be fine because in less than 4 hours I have something else planned.

I can remember the time when it may not have gone this way, but again it is not life threatening.  I step back and the guys and I talk about other things to do, and we come to a sense that I am okay. Life happens, and sometimes it does not happen the way you want it to.

As I read my book and look at what God has created I remember that “thisisyour(my)bestyear”,  and I am gonna enjoy it. I am off to Old San Juan in now less than 3 hours. Educators always have plan B.

Women–No One Mold Fits All

Remember when women were limited to certain careers?  I can, and they were very good careers, but this is no longer the case.  At the Mayor’s Luncheon benefitting the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) I ran into many women with so many fascinating careers.  Some were just staring their careers while others were onto their second even third careers, and even others were reinventing themselves.

A few of the women I met are below.  At the top left is Dr. Tahita Fulkerson, president of the Trinity River Campus of Tarrant County College (my boss). The top right picture is of Ms. Gyna Bivens, Fort Worth City Council Member for District 5.   Ms. Cindi B. on air personality at BOOM 94.5 is at the left.  At the bottom right is the Honorable Betsy Price, Mayor of Fort Worth.

Remember “thisisyourbestyear”.   Your career–your choice.  The mold has been broken.

Women Who Made The Men

Just a thought, and I know it is just television.  It’s not real life or is it?  Why is it that strong, smart women give up everything for the man they love?  Recently on three television shows I noticed that three women basically made these very successful men. She worked and payed for him to go to school, gave up her ambition for his, went to prison and more.  Now the men treat them like dirt (this is a PG) site. I’m not saying I would not have done it–except I know the prison one would never happen–orange is not my color.

What’s your take on this?  I know we all know someone who has done it?
