No Resolutions–Just Gonna Do!

I do not make New Year’s resolutions. I make an I’m Gonna Do list. Most of the time I complete the list with some things put off until the next year. This year in 2014 there will be none of that. In fact I am starting today.

As a woman of a certain age I have always had things that were for special occasions–not any more. It is a special day because I am still here.

I am “gonna” use that china that gets used only a couple of times a year. I will not buy another paper or plastic plate. When my folks tell me we don’t have any more clean plates I am “gonna” tell them to reach up there and get that china. Each and every day will be special.

champagne glasses 1When we popped that bottle of champagne to bring in the New Year we used my mother’s crystal champagne glasses. These glasses are not the flutes but the ones seen in the old movies–the champagne coupe or saucer.

There will be nothing in my house that can not be used.  Everything is fair game.

I say this because twice in the year 2013 I have cleaned out relatives homes where they were saving things for that special occasion. I have told relatives that the person left them something, and the relatives will have an estate sale, sell the items to an antique shop–maybe this was the special day they were waiting for.

I’m not waiting anymore–every day is special.  Remember “thisisyourbestyear”– make every day special

PS–I am not “gonna” iron those napkins though. I will buy nice paper napkins.

YES!!!!! I don’t get it that people save pretty things for “Special Occasions”! Even when I was single _I’d use the china I had at the time, light a candle, pour some wine, play some dinner music & dine with me ,myself & I. I’ve collected china for many years! As a result,I have many sets, different colors & styles, vintage,new,etc._ probably the most expensive set is the 4 piece place setting of the Abraham Lincoln China_(have 8 sets w/Teapot, cream & sugar bowl). President Obama used this same china at his “Inaugural Luncheon”: My husband purchased my China for my Inaugural Birthday Celebration when I reached 60 yrs old! http://sagebookwhisperer.blogspot.com/2013/01/2009my-inaugural-birthday-luncheon.html#links
I say _use those things that are special often_ because one must always think of oneself as being SPECIAL! AND…I have drawers full of all colors…Linen & Battenberg Lace Napkins, vintage Tablecloths, vintage Bun Warmer Cloths, etc….that I spray STARCH & IRON for any everyday use! The hardest is the Tablecloth for 12 that’s Battenberg Lace…I try NOT to use that one often as it’s a pain to iron_ LOL!!! So, very proud of YOU, Soror! Go for it ,use your pretty things everyday!
