In With the New and Fixing the Old

Remember last post when I told you I got a new pair of Birkenstock sandals. They are really good walking sandals especially for those of us who do not have perfect feet. Well I was just about to throw the old pair out–they are at least 5 years old–at least. They have seen much better days, in fact they are so worn they make my feet hurt. I was putting them in the box that the new pair came in when I found a little insert and began to read. It said that you should “never” throw out a pair of Birkenstocks; they can almost always be repaired. Well you know that since I am a woman of a certain age, I am very frugal with my money. I went online to see if Fort Worth had an authorized Birkenstock store, and lo and behold there is one on Camp Bowie Boulevard. Since you have to prove things to me, I called to make sure they could repair my sandals, and they said that as long as the leather straps were good they could.

Well here are the way the shoes looked after he had made sure they could be repaired. Kind of sad, don’t you think?

He literally took the footbeddding out of the shoe to make sure it could be repaired.  Take a look at what he did.

He wanted to make sure that it was not cracked anywhere.  I was informed that he could indeed repair them.  It would take a week to repair and cost about half of what a new pair would cost. I’m thinking to myself that I might should send the new pair back.  Then I thought why not have a spare pair.

On my way out the door I spotted another brand of shoe–Think.  I talked with the sales clerk about them.  He told me that if I liked Birkenstock that I would like Think.  So I tried on a pair.  They are the ones below.

I must admit, they are really comfortable.  They are on par with Birkenstock and might be a little ahead of them in the comfort range.  I can’t really say for sure since I only had them on for a few minutes.  I will give them credit though, they have a complete line from flats, sandals, booties, pumps and more.  They cost about twice as much as Birkenstocks.  I do not know if they have the same policy on repair.  It seems that their website for the United States is down.  You can buy them at Nordstrom Department Stores also from online stores such as Zappos and others.

My Birkenstocks will be repaired next week, and I will let you know how they look.  If you are in the mood for comfortable shoes and you live in the Fort Worth, Texas area go by Take 5 Birkenstock.  They are located at 6108 Camp Bowie, Blvd., Fort Worth, Texas 76116.  You can also reach them at 817.989.2475.

I don’t know about you, but when my feet hurt, I hurt all over.  Remember “thisisyourbestyear”.
